AA Home Insurance highlights home cooking accidents

AA Home Insurance has revealed that cash-conscious Brits are trying to save money by eating at home - but they could still be forking out to pay for mishaps in the kitchen.

Almost half (46.2 per cent) of respondents in the AA's poll said they are eating in as a recession-busting measure, but nine out of ten have experienced accidents costing an average of £100 a year.

The most common household accident is broken glass or china (51.8 per cent), though food stains (43 per cent), red wine spills (33.6 per cent) and cooking accidents (25 per cent) are also frequently reported.

"As the amount of entertaining being done in the home is clearly increasing, now is a good time to check that you have an accidental damage extension on your home policy," said Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance.

Another poll by the AA recently showed that 24 per cent of UK homes will increase in size before the recession ends.
