More Than home insurance advice for secure gardens

More Than has offered home insurance advice to those people looking to make their gardens and homes more secure against the threat of burglars.

While More Than home insurance covers up to £2,000 for plants, gardens and trees and the same amount for outdoor furniture, heaters, barbecues and ornaments, there are still steps that homeowners can take, such as using garden lighting.

Fencing and gates offer barriers to thieves, while a natural alternative may be thorn bushes or prickly plants.

Hedges should be kept well-trimmed so that people cannot hide within, garden sheds should be locked and gravel driveways can provide a noisy deterrent.

Meanwhile, Sainsbury's Home Insurance has issued a similar warning, advising
homeowners to insure their belongings inside the property.

The firm estimates that the average cost to a family whose belongings are destroyed in a disaster such as fire would be around £45,000.
