Index: Consumers trusting of financial services

British consumers have a lot of trust in the financial services and advice on offer to them, according to the Financial Services Research Forum's 2009 Trust Index.

The index, which is published by the Nottingham University Business School, found that the overall trust rating for financial services in the UK is 75.02 - with brokers and advisers rating highest at 81.67.

Investment companies received a trust rating of 76.24, while general insurers scored 75.98 and banks slightly lower at 73.96.

These figures show that the recession has not completely drained Brits' confidence in the financial sector, explained Professor Nigel Waite, director of the Financial Services Research Forum.

However, this should not inspire complacency, as "behind an overall average that suggests consumers have moderate levels of trust in financial services providers, there is considerable variability", he added.

Meanwhile, those Brits who are in need of some free advice on policies such as life insurance and income protection could log on to GetLifeRight.co.uk, a new resource which was launched last week.
