Millions of Britons 'could be paying too much for travel insurance'

Millions of Brits could be paying too much for their travel insurance policies as they shift from a trend of taking several short-haul holidays a year to just one holiday in the summer months.

This is according to Defaqto, which has noted that Brits with annual insurance policies may be losing money if they are among those who take single trips this year.

"Consumers may be better off with single trip insurance, rather than paying extra for annual cover," explained head of insight at Defaqto Brian Brown.

Mr Brown furthered: "For most consumers, taking just one overseas trip a year will mean that purchasing a single trip policy makes more sense."

Meanwhile, those who leave the purchase of their travel policies until the last minute risk losing out on the best deals, according to AA Travel Insurance.

A poll conducted by the company found that 50 per cent of Brits fall into this category.
