AA reveals record numbers visiting online route planner

Figures from the AA have strengthened theories that more and more Brits are choosing to save some cash and stay in their homeland this summer, shunning trips abroad for the attractions of the UK.

According to the group, a record number of people have been attracted to its online route planner, indicating that more holidaymakers are attempting to navigate their way around the British Isles.

Overall, the site saw an 11 per cent rise in the number of people seeking travel advice over the bank holiday period, compared to the same time in 2008.

Spokesperson for AA Route Planner Dave Arnold commented: "This trend looks set to continue and with forecasters tipping a hot summer, it is more important than ever to plan your journey in advance to avoid hotspots and hot heads on busy summer roads."

Brits who have taken out annual travel insurance policies but who are cutting down on their holidays this year should consider changing to single-trip cover for the sake of saving cash, according to Defaqto.
