Prudential: Advisers feel customers' retirement plans are not working out

Almost half of the financial advisers working for pensions provider Prudential believe that the retirement plans of their customers are not on course.

Overall, 43 per cent of the advisers said they are not confident that their customers' plans for retirement are going to be fulfilled, while 34 per cent said they are reasonably confident that they will be.

However, the picture is not completely bleak, as one-third of respondents said that they have seen an increase in the number of people enquiring about retirement planning over the last three months.

Director of intermediated sales at Prudential Andy Curran said: "It's good to see that half of advisers say they've seen an increase in the number of people using the open-market option."

The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics show that just 21 per cent of men and 32 per cent of women earning under £300 a week in the UK opt for employer-sponsored pension schemes.
