'Hole in financial advice services' for over-50s

Britons aged 50 and over do not have access to fully comprehensive financial guidance, according to the Citizens Advice Bureau.

The organisation has claimed that people of this age group are missing out on wide-ranging impartial financial advice as they do not know where to turn to for the guidance they need.

Following a pilot project which saw independent financial advisers from the Personal Finance Society (PFS) consult with those seeking help from the Citizens Advice Bureau, the organisation identified a shortfall in services available for those who whose financial affairs may be complex.

PFS chief executive Fay Goddard said that "we now need to focus on ensuring that the service is promoted and understood by consumers and I will be encouraging more PFS members to come forward to meet the growing demand for the service".

Women aged 50 and over place a lot of emphasis upon financial security when seeking a new partner, according to a survey by Alliance & Leicester.
