ID fraudsters 'most likely to target those young, single and renting'

New research indicates that young men and women who are renting rooms in shared accommodation are the most likely to have their identity stolen by fraudsters.

According to the data, compiled by Experian's ID fraud protection service CreditExpert, people living in rented accommodation are most likely to be vulnerable - specifically if they live in Glasgow or London.

Graduates renting homes in good areas while they save for a mortgage and company directors at the summit of their careers are also at a higher than average risk of having their ID stolen, the firm's research found.

In terms of geography, London was discovered to be the identity fraud capital of the UK, with resident four times as likely to fall victim to the crime than elsewhere in the country.

Last October, the National Fraud Strategic Authority was launched with the aim of clamping down on those who are involved with ID theft and fraud.
