Legal & General: Dads worth £23,000 a year

A survey has found that the average dad is worth around £23,000 a year to a British family.

According to Legal & General - which conducted a survey and then calculated the financial worth of a father - dads spend 53 hours a week on chores, a rise from the 34 hours they spent during the last survey in 2005.

Overall, 21.5 hours are spent caring for their children, 9.5 hours go to the housework and 6 are taken up with cooking duties.

"It's not nice to think about, but families need to ask themselves how they would cope with all the domestic work and childcare that dad does if he suffered a critical illness or died," said Alan Ferguson, Protection Marketing and Channel Development Director for Legal & General.

Father's Day falls on June 21st this year, for those who want to celebrate their dads' good work.
