British tourists 'boosted' by strong pound

As sterling hits a seven-month high against the euro, British holidaymakers can look forward to receiving more bang for their buck, it has been highlighted.

Currency strategist for HiFX Marc Cogliatti said that although rates are not as strong as they have been in recent years, the strengthening of the pound is a step in the right direction.

According to European Central Bank statistics, on June 12th, the pound was up 0.36 per cent against the euro after being down by 0.89 per cent the previous day.

"In the grand scheme of things, the pound is now 15 per cent higher compared to where we were at the start of the year that is obviously good news for holidaymakers," Mr Cogliatti stated.

Britons will be particularly pleased to learn this news as, out of all holiday activities, they most enjoy shopping, eating, sunbathing and drinking, a poll conducted recently by TripAdvisor found.
