Beware of car scams, motorists urged

Motorists in the UK are being warned against a scam which sees conmen promise buyers great deals on cars which do not actually exist.

According to Carcraft, fraudsters are using well-known motoring websites to tempt potential buyers into seemingly perfect deals online.

Internet users are directed to a site which offers to hold their funds while the vehicle they have chosen is shipped to them. However, the buyer often does not receive the car and the conmen behind the scam escape with their cash.

Julia Phipps, group marketing director at Carcraft, said that any deal which seems too good to be true "probably is".

She added: "If you can't shake the hand of the person you're buying from or inspect the car before you part with the asking price, then our advice is think twice."

Meanwhile, this week is National Oil Check Week and those who do have cars are being urged to make sure their oil supplies are regularly replenished to avoid expensive repair charges.
