Cost of running household 'increased by 2.6%'

The cost of running the average British home has risen within the last two years, research from Sainsbury's has revealed.

According to the supermarket, the price of maintaining a household has risen by 2.6 per cent within the last two years, with the average costs of bills, outgoings and mortgage repayments amounting to £11,455 annually.

Home insurance manager for the supermarket Joanne Mallon commented said that Brits are spending "thousands of pounds" on running their homes and "even more" on furniture and improving their surroundings.

"Yet so many people are putting this investment at risk by cutting back on their home insurance. Good quality home insurance doesn't have to be expensive," MyFinances.co.uk quoted her as saying.

People who would like to save some pennies on their outgoings may like to register with Moneysupermarket.com, which is currently running a competition which will see the winner have their energy bills paid for a year.
