NAEA: Each property equals 4 house-hunters

For each property on the market in the UK, there are four people looking to buy, it has been discovered.

The National Association of Estate Agents' (NAEA) monthly housing market survey has revealed that there has been a rise in the number of people looking to buy property in the UK.

It discovered that the average estate agent branch had 299 people registered last month - an increase from 265 in April and 247 during the same time last year. However, the average number of properties each branch had was found to be just 69.

"With mortgage interest rates at historically low levels and prices now far more realistic than in previous years, home ownership in the UK seems to be set to lead the way out of the recession," explained Gary Smith, president of the NAEA.

Meanwhile, those Brits who own property overseas have been reminded by the NAEA that the opportunity to claim tax relief on their second home expires on July 31st.
