Almost two-thirds of UK businesses 'not affected by recession'

In news which may be a surprise to some, a new survey has discovered that nearly two-thirds - or 60 per cent - of small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UK have not been adversely affected by the recession so far.

The poll, carried out jointly by PayPal and Mr Site, found that the turnover of these businesses has not changed since the onset of the credit crunch.

It also discovered that the top three sectors most resistant to the economic downturn are education, manufacturing and the public sector.

Cameron McLean, PayPal's General Manager for UK merchant services, explained: "With consumers turning to the internet more and more to find deals, it is clear that the small businesses that are surviving […] are those that give customers what they want."

Those businesses looking to keep a tighter hold over their funds with a tailored product may be pleased to learn that Alliance & Leicester has introduced a new business bank account.
