Tips on how to slash car insurance costs offered

Young drivers, however safe they may be on the roads, are often faced with heftier insurance costs than their older and more experienced counterparts, but there are certain ways in which they can cut the costs of insurance.

Writing for the Independent, Laura Starkey from BeatThatQuote.com offers some advice on the subject and states that they can start by reducing the risk factor as far as possible.

Though they cost around £100-£150, taking a Pass Plus course could help to assure insurers that a young driver is taking responsible steps towards safety on the roads, she advises.

Choosing their first cars with care is also a must for keeping down costs, Ms Starkey furthers, as flashy, powerful cars often cost more to insure than more modest vehicles. Modifying a model with features such as tinted windows can also heap on charges, she adds.

Other tips the expert offers are improving a car's security, adding an older friend or relative to the policy and refraining from fronting, no matter how strong the temptation may be.

Simon Douglas, the director of AA Insurance, recently urged firms to reward younger motorists for the lengths they go to in order to prove they are responsible on the roads.
