New Leeds Building Society 5-year fixed-rate mortgages introduced

Leeds Building Society has announced the introduction of a new five-year fixed-rate mortgage to the market - something which may be good news for first-time buyers in the UK.

Additional features of the mortgage include a low fixed-fee, ten per cent capital repayments without penalty each year, no higher lending charge and free in-house legal services for those remortgaging.

Director of sales and marketing for the group Kim Rebecchi said that this presents a "fantastic opportunity" as market rates have been picking up of late.

She added that as the low interest rate continues, "many more mortgage holders will welcome the ability to budget and limit their monthly outgoings, particularly existing mortgage customers who may be coming to the end of their current deal".

Last month, Leeds Building Society launched a fixed-rate escalator bond offering a return of 3.25 per cent on investment in the first year.
