Bill-payers urged: Make sure tariff matches consumption

Brits have been encouraged to evaluate their energy consumption and check to make sure the current tariffs they subscribe to match this.

According to MoneySupermarket.com, many bill payers could be losing out due to them being on an ineffective tariff when it comes to the amount of energy they consume.

The price comparison site states that low usage of electricity and gas constitutes 1,650 kWh and 10,000 kWh respectively, while high usage comes in at 4,950 kWh of electricity and 28,000 kWh of gas annually.

Bearing this in mind, research from the group shows that E.ON's EnergyOnline Extra Saver 14 is good for families with high energy consumption, while the SOL 15 tariff from npower is generally more suited to those living alone in flats.

The cost of running the average British home has risen by 2.6 per cent within the last two years, research from Sainsbury's revealed last week.
