People 'should not be embarrassed' about financial woes

Getting into hot water when it comes to finances should not be a source of embarrassment to people who genuinely need help to alleviate the situation.

This is the opinion of chief executive of Turn2us.org.uk Jolanta Lasota, who said that people who feel embarrassed by their debt have no need to be.

She added that instead, they "need to actually have a look at what they are entitled to in terms of benefits, tax credits and grants if they are in financial difficulty" if they are to work their way out of the problems they face.

According to research conducted by Turn2us.org.uk this week, around one in five people are seriously worried about their finances at present, with 38 per cent of respondents saying they could not get by without wages for longer than one month.

A further 51 per cent of those polled said they didn't know that they could turn to charities for financial advice.
