Men 'more confident about car repair than women'

Men are swaggering with confidence when it comes to being able to perform everyday maintenance on their cars, while women are less certain of their mechanic skills.

This is according to a new poll carried out by Churchill Car Insurance, which found that 28 per cent of men consider themselves to be experts at vehicle maintenance, compared to a modest five per cent of women.

Overall, just ten per cent of men believe their mechanic skills are poor, while 31 per cent of women feel the same about their own abilities to fix their cars.

An additional 66 per cent of women said that they are comforted by knowing that their insurance firm is there to help should they break down.

This news comes after National Oil Check Week earlier this month, which highlighted that many motorists in the UK are risking the welfare of their vehicles by not checking their oil levels often enough.
