Abbey and Alliance & Leicester corporate arms 'to be rebranded'

The corporate and commercial banking arms of both Abbey and Alliance & Leicester are to undergo rebranding in line with the image of their owner, Spanish banking group Santander, it has been revealed.

Overall, 20 regional corporate banking sectors will undergo the changes during the remainder of 2009, including those in Manchester, Liverpool, Hull, Glasgow, Cardiff, Birmingham and Reading.

However, the three UK banks that have been taken over by Santander will not undergo complete rebranding until next year.

"We plan to expand our regional network and are recruiting additional relationship managers, giving us the opportunity to develop close relationships with local businesses," said Steve Pateman, head of Santander corporate banking.

Abbey was incorporated into the Santander banking group, which operates in over 40 countries and serves 69 million people worldwide, in 2004.
