BSA: Lending market showing some signs of life

The UK's lending market is showing signs of improvement amid the economic crisis, although this should not be taken to indicate full recovery just yet.

This is the opinion of policy advisor for the Building Societies Association Victoria Barnard, who stated that the market is "still very subdued", although there are "signs of things picking up".

One factor contributing to the bleak conditions currently being experienced in the lending market is a lack of job security among those applying for loans, the expert explained.

"As things start to level out and become a little bit more stable, that's when lenders will start to have a little bit more confidence and move back to offering more high loan-to-value products," Ms Barnard continued.

The Bank of England's credit conditions survey indicated this week that there was a small increase in secured lending availability during the three months to mid-June.
