New British Gas employees 'to advise on smart meters'

British Gas has announced that it will employ a further 2,600 workers who will be dedicated to helping consumers understand how they can save energy and money using smart meters.

The new recruits will address the concerns of the energy firm's customers by helping them use the meters effectively, contributing to the reduction of energy use, bill amounts and carbon emissions, it revealed.

According to MoneySupermarket.com, this is a responsible and positive move on behalf of the energy firm.

"With this transformation and increased scrutiny on bills I think it will put a huge onus on the energy giants to offer affordable and competitive deals for customers," a spokesperson for the financial services website explained.

In May, the government unveiled plans to make sure every home in the UK is installed with a smart meter by the year 2020.
