NAEA: Agents reporting strong sales

The latest figures from the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA) show that despite there being fewer properties on offer in June, sales remained encouragingly strong during the month.

According to the organisation's statistics, the difference between the asking and selling price of the average property fell to 1.9 per cent from 6.3 per cent.

The NAEA's agents also reported that people are more willing to pay the price a seller initially advertises for a property.

Gary Smith, president of the NAEA, commented: "It is in the interests of the UK […] that the upturn in the housing market that has been noted in the first half of 2009 is sustained and nurtured into a full recovery."

Last week, homebuilder Taylor Wimpey announced that its order book increased by 73 per cent last month alone, taking a further £971 million worth of orders during this timeframe.
