Ignoring financial worries 'will only make them worse'

Shying away from facing and discussing financial complications will only plunge those suffering from them in deeper trouble, it has been asserted.

Responding to a new report which found that the recession could be responsible for increased social isolation, spokesman for the charity Turn2us Rob Tolan said that a lack of discussion about financial troubles will only serve to make them "spiral more out of control".

He added: "The more it's talked about, and the sooner these issues are discussed openly, the sooner people are in the position where they can get help."

The report, which was carried out by the charity, found that one quarter of people in the UK do not socialise as much as they used to before the onset of the economic crisis.

Further statistics released by Credit Action this month show that at the end of May, the level of personal debt in the UK stood at £1,459 billion.
