ABI offers further clarification on travelling with swine flu

After news this week of people being turned away from airports for displaying symptoms of swine flu, the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has clarified its advice for travellers in the event of them contracting the virus.

According to the ABI, swine flu is treated no differently than any other illness by insurers and travellers' policies should offer them cover if they become sick while on holiday.

The average insurance policy should cover the cost of receiving medical treatment abroad, it adds, as well as extra money needed for the rearranging of flights and accommodation.

Additionally, those who catch swine flu before their trips will be entitled to claim for holiday cancellation on their policies, the ABI furthers.

In the UK, 30 people have so far died after contracting swine flu - the latest victim being a 15-year-old girl from Glasgow who passed away yesterday.
