AVCIS 'to spend £300,000 fighting vehicle crime'

It has been announced that a grant awarded to the Association of Chief Police Officers' Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service (AVCIS) has been increased from £200,000 to £300,000 and will be allocated to identifying trends in crime involving cars.

The funding will also be used to better coordinate intelligence and devise the best ways of recovering vehicles, it added. Since 2006, the organisation has recovered stolen vehicles worth more than £14 million.

However, the service aims to identify the evolving nature of scams and stay on top of the next moves made by those involved in car crime.

"My team is absolutely determined to maintain the downward trend which last year saw approximately 65,000 less victims of vehicle crime than the year before," explained head of AVCIS Mark Hooper.

AVICS is partnered with various organisations in the motoring industry, including the the Finance and Leasing Association, Tracker, which is owned by RBS and HPI, a private firm specialising in car checks for used vehicles.
