Clydesdale Bank reports rise in mortgage approvals

Clydesdale Bank has revealed that it approved 30 per cent more mortgage applications in May and June than it did during the same period of 2008.

This news comes after the bank pledged to increase its efforts to offer greater help to those seeking mortgages, such as making £1 billion in additional funds available to both business and mortgage customers.

It has also been offering them fee-free mortgage deals, best buy pricing, and 95 per cent loan-to-value mortgages for first-time buyers.

"These values have been met with a positive response from customers with continued growth in the number of mortgage applications we are receiving," explained Steve Reid, the bank's retail director.

Clydesdale Bank was founded in Glasgow in 1938 and is now one of Scotland's largest financial organisations, with 150 branches and 77 financial solutions centres across the UK.
