Switching energy supplier 'could save on winter bills'

Which? Switch has urged consumers to consider changing their energy suppliers before the winter months set in, as increasing numbers of firms are cutting their prices with the aim of remaining competitive.

The group pointed to previous research it undertook that showed gas and energy bills rose by an average of 28.7 per cent and 14 per cent last summer and added that savings now being made by firms are starting to be passed on to consumers.

Even changing tariffs but remaining with the same provider may help people to make savings, it added, as will paying by direct debit or through an online account.

Which? Switch representative Alan Morrison said: "It seems strange to think about your heating bills in summer, but this is a decision that could benefit customers all year round."

According to statutory organisation Consumer Focus, switching from traditional to online bill paying could help consumers make significant savings on their energy bills.
