Sterling 'at 10-month high against dollar'

Holidaymakers will no doubt be rejoicing at the latest figures from currency provider Caxton FX, which show that the pound is at a ten-month high against the dollar.

Its current rate stands at $1.6851 dollars to the pound, the data shows. Sterling is also currently strong against the euro, the currency firm added.

The strength of the pound is though to have been bolstered by positive gross domestic product (GDP) data published in the US last week.

It showed that a decline of one per cent in GDP had occurred, rather than the 1.5 per cent decline expected by analysts.

"Over the medium-term we are forecasting for sterling to continue to gain against the greenback, particularly if banks and blue-chip stocks show renewed strength, as Barclays did today," explained David Clements, Senior Analyst at the company.

Caxton FX provides fee-free transfers on both large and small currency transactions, as well as prepaid cards and an online FastPay service that allows the easier conversion of funds online.
