AA Insurance: Personal injury claims on the rise

AA Insurance figures out this week show that the number of road casualties in the UK has gone down over the last 12 months, although personal injury claims have surged.

According to AA Insurance, the number of people hurt on Britain's roads has fallen by eight per cent since 2008.

However, it points out, recent data from the Association of British Insurers shows that the number of personal injury claims has soared from £8.8 billion in 2006 to £9.6 billion this year.

Director of AA Insurance Simon Douglas said: "This suggests that those involved in accidents are much more inclined to make personal injury claims, even for non-serious injuries such as minor whiplash cured by painkillers over a couple of days."

Last week, the AA British Insurance Premium Index found that the typical quote for an annual comprehensive insurance policy rose by 3.5 per cent during the second quarter of 2009.
