Lloyds TSB International savings account 'expat-friendly'

Lloyds TSB's International Bonus Saver Account, which was launched this week, may be a welcome announcement for those whose finances cross several countries.

Offering customers the chance to access their money without losing the interest they have earned, the account is available in either euros or sterling.

If opened in sterling, the account offers savers an introductory bonus rate of 0.5 per cent, which lasts for the first six months. To open the account, customers must have a minimum balance of £5,000.

They can then enjoy a gross rate of 2.5 per cent and 2.52 per cent AER.

Lloyds TSB International's product manager Mark Spagnoli commented: "Our personal circumstances can change unexpectedly [and] we all want the peace of mind offered by instant access to our savings, but we don't want to sacrifice interest on our hard-earned cash."

Another potentially useful package for expats announced this week is the Post Office Overseas Property Money Transfer Service - which allows customers to fix their rate of exchange to save their funds being eroded by fluctuating currency markets.
