Saga Motor Insurance: £3.8bn worth of gadgets in Brits' cars

Saga Motor Insurance has conducted a survey which found that collectively, British motorists have around £3.8 billion worth of expensive gadgets and accessories in their cars.

The poll, which was conducted by Opinium Research on behalf of the group, found that 22 per cent of motorists over the age of 50 have more than £200 worth of portable gadgets in their vehicles.

This exceeds the average amount of £100 to £200 cover for personal possessions offered by insurance firms in the country, Saga discovered.

Executive chairman of the Saga Group Andrew Goodsell said: "The over-50s do tend to take more care and lock valuables out of sight or remove them from the car altogether."

All the same, he added, it is advisable that they check their insurance policies to confirm just how much cover they are eligible to receive in case of theft.

According to figures from AA Insurance, the number of people hurt on Britain's roads has fallen by eight per cent within the last year.
