Car insurance customers 'should not slack on maintenance'

Car insurance policy holders should make sure their vehicles are kept in a good state of repair and receive regular maintenance and attention.

This is the viewpoint of the press officer for the Retail Motor Industry Federation Alex Wells, who said that taking such measures could prove to be even more important in the current climate.

"In the long run this will actually save you money because any small problems will be picked up before they become large problems - which is usually when they become expensive," he explained.

Mr Wells added that motorists who are not so confident about identifying their cars' faults should take them to a garage approved by the federation for advice and solutions that will not charge excessive fees.

A survey conducted by Churchill Car Insurance found that 44 per cent of women do not know how to check the oil level of their cars, compared to 21 per cent of men who said the same.
