Barclaycard offers customers financial assistance

The scheme identifies customers whose credit rating appears to be slipping into negative territory and proceeds to offer the advice on how to tackle the problem.
Barclaycard customers whose account behaviour becomes erratic or individuals struggling to pay their debts will be contacted by text message or telephone and invited to discuss the issues with an experienced advisor.
"We know some of our customers […] will be experiencing financial difficulty this year and we want to help. This means that we're giving them somewhere to turn to if they're worried about their borrowing," explained Antony Jenkins, chief executive of Barclaycard.
Last week, Barclays announced that its profits during the first half of 2009 stood at £2.98 billion - slightly below the £3 billion plus forecast offered by analysts.
