HSBC customers 'reunited with their forgotten cash'

HSBC has revealed that a campaign it launched to reunite its customers with the £38.8 million lying in unused bank accounts across the UK has proved to be successful so far.

The bank announced that to date, it has managed to successfully reunite its customers with funds that they have forgotten about in dormant bank accounts.

This effort is part of HSBC's aim to focus on 40,000 accounts that have seen no activity for long periods of time.

General manager of HSBC customer propositions Brendan Cook said: "With an average balance of £1,000 in these accounts, this is money that could make a real difference to a lot of people if we can trace them."

In June, HSBC was awarded the gong for most responsible lender of the year by commercial and consumer magazine Credit Today, which praised the bank for its conscientious approach to lending.
