The comparison site listed expensive clothes and electronic gadgets, such as mp3 players, laptops and televisions, as the sort of products that could increase the contents cover they need up to as much as £5,000.
One piece of advice offered was to make a student house safer through the installation of alarm systems and extra locks, as doing so will reduce risk - and also the home insurance premium.
As students will often take expensive possessions on to campus and back, the site recommended "away from home" insurance, which gives cover even when outside the house.
Also, it is often assumed that a student will be covered at their university house under their parent's policy, but Confused.com urged people to check this as a different level of cover could be in place.
Last month, the website provided advice for students moving into new homes, suggesting that it was important that the place is safe, to understand which bills and charges you must pay, and where you can make savings.
