Co-operative Credit Cards uncovers sunshine spending

Co-operative Bank Credit Cards has claimed that when the sun is shining the most popular place to spend money is at some form of members club.

Research by the organisation indicated that 29 per cent of credit card transactions over a sunny weekend took place at a membership club, country club or a private golf course.

Building material stores were nearly as popular with 27 per cent, while garden supply stores recorded 18 per cent of all purchases made and retail stores took up only seven per cent.

Maxine Xodo-Rose, credit card product manager at the Co-operative Bank, commented that "summer offers a great opportunity to spend time with the family" but recommended spending wisely.

Similar research was undertaken on a cold weekend and travel agencies came out with the largest share of transactions, with 25 per cent.

Last month the Co-operative Bank announced a ten per cent rise in sales of its Clear Credit Card over the previous year.
