Saving for vacations will prevent financial hangover, says Halifax

Less than half of the population normally saves up money for their yearly holiday, but this will leave holidaymakers with a financial hangover when they get home, according to Halifax.

In recent research by the organisation, it was found that only 44 per cent of people generally saved up each year for a holiday, but that this year 84 per cent were putting money away to make sure they got a vacation at some point.

Flavia Palacios Umama, head of Halifax savings products, commented that this was the best way to get away and enjoy the sun, as you are not worrying about the financial trouble you are putting yourself in.

"It is great to see that so many people are saving towards their annual holiday which should give them a real sense of achievement on a well deserved vacation."

The survey also showed that 51 per cent of people have decided that they are going to save up for their holiday in 2010.

A recent study by the company also showed that 73 per cent of students are now working alongside their studies because of money worries.
