Scottish Widows set to offer week of finance advice

Scottish Widows is supporting the Institute for Financial Planning (IFP) in their Financial Planning Week by holding seminars at people's places of work.

John Taylor, market director for corporate pensions at the organisation, commented that holding the talks in the workplace has been strongly supported in its research and offers it a chance to help people with their finances.

He stressed the importance of saving for retirement - one of the key messages being put across in the seminars - as an essential part of everyone's long-term financial plan.

"We would hope that once there is a better level of education amongst employees from these practical seminars, there will be a greater understanding of the need to plan for retirement," he said.

Research by Scottish Widows showed that 76 per cent of people want guidance in their workplace on how to plan for when they retire.

Financial Planning Week takes place between September 7th and 13th.

Last month, Scottish Widows announced that the average outstanding debt of people in the UK, discounting mortgages, is £7,344.
