Confused.com advises people to pay off credit cards

Confused.com has told people to pay off their credit cards as a priority because it is their most expensive debt.

Joanne Garcia, head of credit cards at the comparison site, said that now is the time for people to take control of their finances and part of this is to pay off expensive debts.

She recommended switching to a cheaper credit card if it is available and making more than the minimum payment every month.

"If you can't switch to a cheaper credit card, you can still make staggering overall savings by making more than the minimum repayment every month," she added.

Ms Garcia noted that it can often be time-consuming to switch card companies, so it is important to know that borrowers are picking the right one, not least because getting rejected will affect their credit score.

Recent research by Confused.com showed that people in the UK are collectively spending £411 million more than they need to simply through not shopping around for their car insurance.
