AXA Sun Life Direct advises people to make provisions for funeral

AXA Sun Life Direct has advised people that funeral prices are expected to rise, so it is sensible to make provisions for them early.

Mark Howes, managing director of the organisation, made his comments following the publication of research by Sun Life Direct which shows that the total cost of dying is around £7,000 including all bills and funeral arrangements.

He noted that funeral preferences are not an enjoyable topic of conversation, but people can help themselves during the decision-making process by making sure that there is enough money put aside to pay for it all.

"Organising a funeral can be extremely stressful and painful, without having the added worry of not being able to cover the costs," he said.

Research by the company also indicated that 59 per cent of people who had put money aside had done so through savings or investments.

Earlier this month, Asda and LV= teamed up to release a new life insurance cover, which they claim can be a good way of shielding family members from the costs of a funeral.
