Saga over-50s motorcycle insurance announced

Saga has released a new motor insurance product to cover over-50s on motorbikes as the pastime gains popularity.

Andrew Goodsell, executive chairman at the financial services organisation, commented that he hoped that the new product would allow older people to keep going out on their motorcycle knowing that they are fully insured.

The product has been launched following the publication of research by Saga Insurance indicating that 21 per cent of all motorbike riders are over 50 years old.

He added: "With more over-50s than ever before taking to the road, it is a great indication that this age group is really embracing the idea of living life to the full."

The company's research also showed that the most popular type of bike for people in that age group to own is a touring bike, followed by a standard bike, a scooter and finally a sports bike.

Earlier this month, Saga commented that over-50s are often being given less travel insurance than they think, because some policies do not cover pre-existing conditions.
