Barclaycard pre-application service launched

Barclaycard has launched a pre-application service that allows people to check their eligibility for a card without damaging their credit report.

Arner Sajed, chief executive of the UK arm of the organisation, noted that at the moment potential borrowers must process a full credit card application before they know if they have been accepted or not.

He points out that this can damage an otherwise good credit report, so this new pre-application tool was a solution to the problem.

"The check can be completed in a few minutes and gives consumers a good indication of whether their application will be accepted," he added.

If a pre-application check is carried out then it is recorded on that person's file, but it does not leave a negative effect like a full application does.

Last month, Barclaycard launched a new online account system called mybarclaycard, which it claimed gives its customers more control over their accounts.
