HSBC advises 3rd year students to budget carefully

HSBC has told third-year students that they should budget carefully so that money worries do not distract them.

Lucy Payne, youth and student manager at the organisation, noted that it can be very easy for students to max out their overdraft or spend too much, but the final year of university is so important that they cannot let it become a distraction.

She made her comments following the release of a joint study between HSBC and the National Union of Students which found that 40 per cent of final-year students are in employment to help their finances.

"It's so easy for students to lose track of their expenditure, especially if they receive a lump some of money at the start of their studies," she added.

Their research also showed that men at university spend nearly a third more than women on going out and socialising.

This week, the TUC released a statement pointing out that one of the main victims of the spending cuts proposed by the Taxpayers' Alliance and Institute of Directors will be students.
