Virgin Money says London can be good value

Virgin Money has claimed that a trip to London need not be overpriced - as long as you plan carefully.

These comments were made following research by the organisation which showed that New York is the most expensive city in the world to go for a weekend break.

Grant Bather, a spokesperson for Virgin Travel Insurance, pointed out that city breaks are very popular at the moment but that it is not necessarily obvious which places will work out more expensive overall.

"You don't have to raid the savings to come to the capital and if you choose carefully you can get good value during your stay," he added.

Mr Bather noted that a place that is farther away such as Bangkok can work out a lot cheaper once you arrive and should be considered when people are making a decision over where to go.

Last month, the insurer LV= undertook a survey and found that London was the joint top destination for people going away from home over the bank holiday.
