Postal strike could affect credit reports, says uSwitch

The consequences of the recent postal strikes could be detrimental to people's credit reports, according to uSwitch.

Rumina Hassam, personal finance expert at the comparison site, made her comments following the news that £150 million of late fees were handed out to customers, despite a recent postal strike.

She advised asking for any charge to be refunded if people believe that the strike affected them, but warned that the missed payment will still show up on their credit report.

"This seems to be an ongoing issue - it could be good practice to set up a direct debit to all credit card providers - that way you will never be caught out again," added Ms Hassam.

This year, she noted that 5.7 million people have had to pay late fees, which she said ends up being a huge source of income for lenders and an expensive experience for consumers.

Recently, Louise Bond from uSwitch complimented NatWest and RBS for cutting their unauthorised borrowing rates, but told customers not to let it encourage them to be sloppy with their finances.
