Parking troubles are leading to scratches, says Aviva

Aviva has pointed out that many awkward parking spaces are leading to cars being scratched and insurance claims being made.

The financial services provider has come up with a few tips with the help of record-breaking driver Terry Grant.

One of the most important hints is perhaps one of the hardest, which is to stay calm and not feel rushed by people queuing behind.

It can also help to ask anyone else in the car with you to get out and help you in to a bay, particularly as this means you do not have to worry about them having enough space to open their door.

David Tyers, director of insurance marketing at Aviva, said: "Sometimes the spaces we try and shoe-horn our cars into are so awkward that even the most experienced driver in the world would struggle."

The UK's first ever PARK(ing) Day took place on September 18th, where parking bays are turned into green spaces for a day.

It is a scheme that was started up in San Francisco where artists used plants and flowers to decorate a parking bay for a day.
