RSA: Businesses must be aware of CRC

RSA has told businesses to educate themselves over the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) and take action to ensure they are optimising energy efficiency.

The CRC scheme involves the heavier users of utilities purchasing allowances to offset their carbon footprint, which RSA has estimated could cost companies up to £55,000 extra per year.

Alex Matthias, energy management leader at RSA, commented that businesses must learn to optimise their energy efficiency in order to end up spending less.

He pointed out that this would make them more environmentally responsible and compliant with the new regulations, as well as allowing them to make savings on costs.

Mr Matthias added: "CRC will be an important issue for many years to come and it is vital that organisations take advantage of the potential financial benefits by acting now."

RSA recently warned businesses in the construction industry that they need to take better care of sites that are closed down as a result of the economic downturn, suggesting that it could prevent thievery, vandalism and potential accidents.
