Brits would consider crashing for cash, says moneysupermarket.com

British motorists would think about staging a road accident in order to try and make some money, new research by moneysupermarket.com has suggested.

According to figures from the price comparison site, more than a million Brits would consider becoming involved in such an incident in order to make a claim on their car insurance.

The organisation also expressed concern that 340,000 road users said that they have already successfully staged a car accident so that they could make an insurance claim.

Commenting, Steve Sweeney, head of motor insurance at moneysupermarket.com, said that no matter how badly people feel they have been affected by the global economic downturn, staging a car crash is "a step too far".

"We have all been affected by the recession in one way or another, but crashing for cash is not only illegal but wilfully endangers the lives of others," he concluded.

In recent days, the site published research indicating that 62 per cent of Brits think that people caught without adequate car insurance should receive harsher penalties than those currently being handed out.
