Spokesperson for the organisation Jatin Patel made his comments following the publication of research by Lloyds, which indicated that 38 per cent of people in the UK have been a victim of this type of fraud.
Mr Patel stated that the current economic situation in the country will make the temptation greater for criminals to try and take money through illegal means.
He added: "Protecting ourselves by shredding documents and protecting passwords is a good start, but having someone else keep an eye on your identity offers extra peace of mind."
The research also showed that one in four people do not know how to protect themselves from identity fraud.
Last week, Lloyds launched Debtor Insurance to protect small to medium-sized enterprises from bad debts.
